CPD requirements for 2024
From 1 January 2023, the Medical Board of Australia (MBA)* introduced some major changes for all doctors practicing in Australia, including:
- The introduction of CPD Homes
- The introduction of professional development plans (PDPs) for all doctors
- A requirement for doctors to complete different types of CPD to improve the value of their professional development
- A requirement to complete 50 hours of CPD each year
What are the new annual CPD requirements?:
- Submit your CPD plan: At the start of each year, doctors must define their goals for the year ahead and build a professional development plan
- Complete 50 hours of CPD activities: Each year, doctors must complete 50 hours of CPD education, across three areas (see breakdown below)
- Submit self assessment and reflection: At the end of each year, doctors must review and reflect on their activities

Frequently asked questions
Below is an FAQ section to help you understand the specifics of these changes.
How do I know which CPD activity hours are allocated to each activity on ThinkGP?
All activities have been accredited for the 23-25 triennium. These are all clearly marked with the number of hours for each activity type (Education Activity/Measuring Outcomes/Reviewing Performance or a combination of them). These activities are accredited with RACGP and ACRRM for the number of hours advised. When you complete the activity, if you have registered on ThinkGP with your RACGP and/or ACRRM ID, your hours will be automatically uploaded for you.
Are clinical audits (QI programs) still a highly recommended way to upskill GPs to provide quality patient care and outcomes?
Not only will a ThinkGP clinical audit give you confidence to deliver best practice recommendations across a range of therapeutic areas, you will also obtain valuable Measuring Outcomes and Reviewing Performance CPD hours. You can view all our current clinical audits here.
When are my CPD hours reported to RACGP and ACRRM?
CPD hours are reported each week to RACGP and ACRRM.
