Shining a light on sun-damaged skin: Recognising and managing non-melanoma skin cancer and other effects of sun-damaged skin

Sun damage caused by ultraviolet radiation is linked to a number of common conditions such as solar keratosis, skin cancer, and photoaging. This module looks at the prevention, diagnosis, and management of common non-melanoma skin conditions in general practice, and will help GPs identify when a specialist referral is necessary.

Essential epilepsy: from presentation and referral to regular review

Epilepsy is a complex condition requiring ongoing care, and GPs must be aware of the long-term needs of the patient and the role of the multidisciplinary team in ensuring the patient maintains their quality of life. This three-part ALM provides comprehensive education on the initial assessment, identification and management of epilepsy, as well as the management of complex cases of epilepsy involving specific needs, and includes a patient review exercise to support specialist referral.

Taking control of problem drinking

Alcohol consumption is Australia’s second largest cause of preventable morbidity and mortality, yet problem drinking is poorly managed compared to other chronic conditions or lifestyle issues. This module will help GPs understand how to detect and identify problem drinking, and manage it using a multidisciplinary management strategy.

HIV PrEP prescribing in general practice

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is the most effective bio-medical form of HIV prevention, and trials across Australia have shown a dramatic decrease in new HIV infection in those at risk of HIV. This module provides an overview of PrEP, and includes a patient case study to help GPs familiarise themselves with taking a sexual health history prescribing PrEP, and providing patient education.

GP ALM and Allied Health Skills: Developmental disorders in young people

This activity seeks to educate health professionals on issues surrounding the identification and support of young people with developmental disabilities, along with their mental health care. Utilising a number of case studies, ways of offering the best possible evidence-based care for young people in an effective and inclusive manner are explored.
