    New clinical skills update

Refresh your knowledge on wound management.

How often have you encountered a chronic, non-healing wound and hesitated to manage it yourself? This course equips you with wound care fundamentals, empowering you to assess and treat wounds with greater confidence. You'll learn to initiate appropriate treatment plans, including interventions, dressing selection, and help reduce the morbidity and mortality that result from wound treatment delays.

    About this education

This education has been developed by Medmastery and is available on ThinkGP under licence as part of a short pilot activity for Australian GPs.

The activity has been reviewed by an Australian GP.  Nonetheless, the content was originally developed for international audiences so some terminology, assessment and aspects of treatment and management may differ from Australian settings.

Your feedback at the end of the activity will help inform whether this type of education should continue on ThinkGP and how it may be adapted for Australian GPs.

    Learning outcomes

On completion of this education activity, participants will be able to:
Describe the structure and function of the skin and explain the physiological phases of wound healing, including the key cells and processes involved.
Perform a systematic wound assessment, including measurement, tissue identification and differentiation between acute and chronic wounds.
Identify the characteristics and underlying causes of common wound types, and recognise patient and environmental factors that influence wound healing, including considerations for different populations.
Apply evidence-based wound management strategies, including determining when debridement is indicated and selecting appropriate wound dressings.
