ASCVD remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, with secondary prevention critical to reducing recurrent events. Using the latest Australian and international guidelines, our cardiology and GP experts will explore the rationale for updated LDL-C targets. How low is too low? What new risk management tools and therapies should GPs be using, and why? What should GPs manage within in their practice and when should they consider referral?

Presented by GP Dr Rob Hungerford, and cardiologist A/Prof Adam Nelson, this deep-dive advanced course will provide you the latest evidence-based strategies to optimise cardiovascular secondary prevention in primary care.

    Learning outcomes

On completion of this advanced course you will be able to:
Analyse the role of LDL-C in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and justify the importance of LDL-C lowering in both primary and secondary prevention.
Evaluate current cardiovascular risk assessment tools and integrate additional factors to perform an advanced cardiovascular risk assessment.
Compare current Australian and international guidelines for LDL-C targets in the secondary prevention of ASCVD.
Formulate combination strategies and apply advanced lipid-lowering therapies to assist patients in achieving their personalised LDL-C goals.
Identify potential barriers to optimal LDL-C management and develop strategies to overcome these challenges in clinical practice.
Discuss residual risk factors in ASCVD and propose methods to mitigate the risk of subsequent cardiovascular events.
