    Activity aim

    Acne remains a common challenge in Australia, often leading to discomfort, lifelong scarring, and psychological distress.¹˒² Timely and effective treatment is essential to minimise these impacts.¹˒² Topical therapies are the cornerstone of acne treatment, with multimodal approaches recommended to enhance efficacy and reduce antibiotic resistance.³ Updated guidelines now recommend topical fixed-dose combination treatments as the first-line therapy for mild-to-moderate acne.³

    This mini-audit includes a 1hour pre-learning module, followed by a mini-audit where you apply your learnings by reviewing the management of three patients with mild-to-moderate acne.

    Inclusion criteria

    Patients who are eligible for this clinical audit include those:

    • With mild-to-moderate acne
    • Aged ≥18 years
    • Newly diagnosed or whose curent primary care management should be reviewed in line with the latest guideline recommendaitons
    • Not being managed by a dermatoligist for any conditions that may affect acne management.

    How long should it take?

    The program has been designed to take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete. This includes patient recall from your practice, patient consult and program evaluation.

    Tips to recruit patients

    Recruitment may occur:

    • Opportunistically as you consult appropriate patients as part of usual care.
    • By active recall.

    Learning outcomes

    On completion of this educational activity participants will be able to:
    Explain the importance of timely and effective acne management.
    Describe the main pathogenic factors that cause acne and relate these to the mode of action of different acne treatments.
    Prescribe fixed-dose combination topical treatments as first-line therapies in mild-to-moderate acne as per recommendations in recent clinical guidelines.
    Individualise mild-to-moderate acne treatment based on recent clinical guidelines through considering and assessing personal and clinical factors.
