This advanced course reviews latest recommendations and practical advice for the person-centred care of type 2 diabetes in general practice.1 Presented by a panel of Australian GPs including A/Prof Gary Kilov, A/Prof Ralph Audehm and Dr Chee Khoo, it features a discussion of updated guidelines for the individualised selection of glucose-lowering therapies, and how these guidelines can be applied within an Australian context.
On completion of this education activity participants will be able to:- Evaluate the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and its impact on various comorbidities and systems
- Apply updated T2D guidelines in order to provide a holistic, person-centred approach to T2D management
- Develop strategies to address T2D with obesity ("diabesity“) by addressing shared physiological mechanisms
- Explain the mechanism of action of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) in T2D treatment
