Responsible prescribing of opioids for chronic non-cancer pain as part of a multimodal approach

Non-drug and non-opioid therapies should be implemented as the first-line approach to care in patients with chronic non-cancer pain. Only when these approaches have been ineffective, opioid therapies may be considered in a select group of patients as outlined in current Australian guidelines. This module aims to educate GPs about the broad issues about opioid use in society, as well as how to confidently and responsibly manage chronic non-cancer pain using an individualised sociopsychobiomedical approach.
