Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) affects approximately one in four women of menstrual age, and can have significant impact on their physical, social, emotional and/or material quality of life. This activity outlines the accurate assessment and diagnosis of HMB, and explores the hormonal, non-hormonal and surgical options available for patients.
By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the impact of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) on patients.
- Identify appropriate initial assessments and investigations in people with HMB.
- Select evidence-based pharmaceutical treatment for HMB.
- Assess when uterine-preserving alternatives to hysterectomy in HMB are appropriate.
