While osteoporosis is a common condition affecting over 1 million Australians, there is persisting under-investigation and under-treatment of patients at risk of fracture. This activity explores the timely identification and effective management of osteoporosis, utilising latest recommendations from the 2021 Position Statement on the Management of Osteoporosis.

On completion of this educational activity participants will be able to:
  • List risk factors that indicate that a postmenopausal woman or man over the age of 50 years should undergo assessment for osteoporosis.
  • Identify whether an individual requires treatment for osteoporosis based on the current Australian guidelines.
  • Describe how to individualise treatment based on clinical characteristics and preferences of patients.
  • Discuss lifestyle changes that people can implement to help reduce their risk of fragility fracture.

This activity is sponsored by Healthy Bones Australia.
