Hypothyroidism is common and may present with vague, non specific symptoms. Chronic kidney disease is a significant risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease. These articles will assist with diagnosis and management of chronic conditions.
Learning objectives: At the completion of this learning activity, the participant should be able to
- Diagnose hypothyroidism based on serological findings
- Understand the introduction and monitoring of thyroxine in the management of hypothyroidism
- Manage complicating co-morbidities in the management of hypothyroidism
- Institute management to minimise the effects of chronic kidney disease on cardiovascular disease and manage the features common to both
- Ensure systems to monitor patients with chronic diseases of the thyroid and kidney that need close follow up
